Conversion Method of Pressure Units KPa, MPa, Bar, Psi, and Kg

Valve and pipe fitting systems have many important parameters. Among them, the pressure unit is essential, and there will be relevant descriptions in the design, application, and product characteristics.

Pressure units are divided into metric units and imperial units. Different countries and regions use different units, so in international trade, it is very important to convert the two to achieve unity.

Metric Units: KPa, MPa, Bar

First, we must realize that pressure does not force, the unit of pressure is N, and pressure refers to the vertical force on the unit area of an object.

The unit of pressure is Pascal, which is "Pa", 1 Pa is equal to 1 N of force acting on an area of 1 square meter, that is, 1Pa=1N/m².

The metric units we usually use are KPa, MPa, and bar. 1KPa=10³Pa; 1MPa=10⁶Pa, 1bar=10⁵Pa.

Imperial Units: Psi

The imperial unit we usually use is psi. Psi means "pound per square inch", which means 1 pound of force acts on an area of 1 square inch. It seems very complicated, but in fact, the conversion in daily life is generally between psi and bar, and between bar and MPa.

Psi and bar are used more often, and MPa is rarely used.

KG

Then comes the introduction of Kg (kilogram). The kilogram in general pressure units is an acronym. From the weight of 1 kg acting on an area of 1 cm², its value is exactly equal to about 10⁵ Pa=1bar, which means that what we call 1 kg (pressure) = 1 bar.

In the valve piping system, we can also see another parameter: PN, which is the nominal pressure. Its full name is pressure nominal, the unit is MPa.
